I'm a Ghanaian female DJ, known as Koma-T. I moved to the US 16 years ago and currently live in San Francisco, where I've been DJing for almost 6 years. I focus on playing Melanated Music I.e. music from and inspired by Africa and the African diaspora. Genres include Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Reggae and Afrohouse. Prior to the global pandemic I was running a monthly party at a club here in San Francisco called ISSA VIBE. I also DJed at the Asa Baako 2020 a 10yr old music festival on Busua Beach just before Corona virus brought the world to a screeching halt. For my 9-5, I work as a data scientist at Airbnb and previously spent 4.5 years in a similar role at Google. I also graduated from MIT a couple of years ago with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and I have an MBA from The Wharton School. When I DJ, my ultimate goal is to bring people together based on the shared love of a variety of music and to get people to dance, grind, whine, scream, sing along or do whatever they do to show they're feeling the music.
